Jonathan Mayer was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Encouraged in the arts from a young age, he began illustrating sermons for his grandfather. After graduating from Nebraska Lutheran High School, he attended Bethany Lutheran College. He earned a B.A. in studio art in 2007, and began work as a freelance illustrator immediately thereafter. In 2011 he graduated with an M.F.A. in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design. He taught art at Concordia University Nebraska for one year. He currently resides in Seward, Nebraska with his wife and three children.
Scapegoat Studio provides various artistic services for Christian churches, from altar paintings and banners to church logo design. It was created in order to fill a perceived void in the liturgical art of present day. Scapegoat Studio is Mayer's attempt to return Christian art to its historical roots in liturgical worship—and its proper focus on Christ alone.
