Art

An art major at Thiel College encompasses fine art theory and practice as well as the history of art with a curriculum based on a set of core foundation courses in drawing, painting, sculpture and art history. You will build on this foundation with upper-level electives in an area of concentration of your choosing that will allow you to build a basic portfolio for application to post-baccalaureate study or employment in the art world.

By studying art at Thiel College, you’ll be able to:

Receive personal attention and hands-on experience
Enjoy exceptional facilities – a variety of studios and the Weyers-Sampson Gallery, which hosts four to five professional exhibits along with student exhibitions each year
Study with talented professors who are practicing artists

Communication

One of our largest programs, a communication major at Thiel College balances practice and theory and fosters a personal, dynamic, creative environment in which you will learn from mentors in the classroom and the studio or newsroom. From interactive new media to traditional mass media to public relations to communication theory, the department is committed to developing in each student an appreciation and understanding for the dynamic, creative impulse to communicate persuasively and precisely with a variety of audiences.

The Communication Department is housed in the new, state-of-the-art James Pedas Communication Center, which opened in fall 2014. The intimate setting of the Center allows students to engage with each other, as well as the faculty and media professionals instructing them, in an area that inspires creativity.
