Dawn Sonntag is a composer, conductor, singer, pianist, and educator. Her works have been performed by choirs at Ohio Statue University, the University of Minnesota, Augsburg College, Valparaiso University, the Leif Eriksson International Choir and choirs in Norway, France, and Germany. Her commissions have included choral-orchestral works set to texts by Gerhardt and Luther for the 20th and 25th anniversary festival Reformation services at Luther Seminary, works for choir and the Vancouver-based Orchid Ensemble, and the Criss Commission for Sacred Music at Mississippi State University. She was the 2010 MTNA-Ohio Composer of the Year. She is Associate Professor of Music at Hiram College and holds a D.M.A. from the University Minnesota.
My work is influenced by a myriad of styles, ranging from Bach to impressionism and jazz. My diverse background as a singer, pianist, church organist, and former trumpet player has drawn me to compose choral works with organ, strings, brass, winds, and chamber orchestra.
