Founded in 1847, Carthage College is a four-year, private college of the liberal arts and sciences in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Carthage combines an environment of reflection and self-discovery with a culture of high expectation so our students uncover and ignite their true potential.

Carthage’s campus is an 80-acre arboretum located on the shore of Lake Michigan, midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. The campus offers breathtaking views of Lake Michigan from almost every building on campus, including many residence hall rooms. Easy access to two major metropolitan areas gives students opportunities for real-world experience and networking.

Carthage awards the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in more than 40 subject areas, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and the Master of Education degree. Carthage also hosts the Loyola University Chicago Master of Social Work graduate degree program.

Carthage is ranked No. 4 in the nation among baccalaureate institutions for student participation in short-term student abroad. Many students who wouldn’t otherwise study abroad during college have an opportunity to spend up to a month in a different country during Carthage’s January Term, when faculty lead study tours to such destinations as Germany, Sweden, Cuba, China, and Nicaragua.

Art • Art History

The Carthage Art Department offers students the chance to create art in a breathtaking setting, master traditional media even as they push the boundaries of their personal vision, and learn from the great works hanging in the internationally recognized galleries of nearby Chicago and Milwaukee.

Whether you want to perform in our ensembles, pursue a career in music, or both, a Carthage music education will help you reach new heights.

Recognizing that the study of music is essential to the full realization of human creativity and expression, the music department creates challenging opportunities for students that advance musical excellence and foster lifelong musical engagement.

Carthage Theatre provides students all-encompassing education, provides the community with groundbreaking and award-winning productions, and prepares students to use their talents in service to their art and to the world.

Vital to the liberal arts tradition, a Carthage theatre education enables students to contribute meaningfully to both the world of theatre and the world at-large.
