Wittenberg University - Springfield, OH A Lutheran-affiliated liberal arts college in the heart of Southwest Ohio, Wittenberg enjoys a national reputation for excellent academic standards and is widely known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Guests on our campus, which is recognized as one of America's most beautiful, will quickly feel the friendliness with the first of many "Wittenberg Hellos" during their visit.

Department of Art & Art History

Believing that active, engaged learning fosters creative thinking, problem solving and expression, Wittenberg’s Department of Art delivers comprehensive art training within a liberal arts tradition, preparing students for success in today’s competitive art environment.
Students in the department of art can choose among concentrations in Art History, Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Silver Jewelry, Photography and Digital Imaging, Printmaking, and Graphic Design.
Students work closely with faculty--practicing artists and historians-- in a highly personal environment, and small class sizes ensure that faculty can help students reach their creative, intellectual, and technical potential. The nurturing environment enables students to discover which area most interests them, and each student’s personal aesthetic and intellectual engagement is strengthened by close interaction with faculty.

Department of Music

The Music Department is one of the University’s most active departments, with many students (both music majors and nonmajors) enrolling in music classes, ensembles, and lessons.

With excellent faculty and first-rate facilities, the Music Department has been an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) for more than 80 years. Wittenberg is a small residential college with more Ohio Professors of the Year than any four-year university in the state! Because of our 12:1 faculty-student ratio, you will enjoy small class sizes.

After graduation, our alumni enter a wide variety of careers. They are active as teachers, performers, music therapists, church music directors and organists, composers, conductors, college professors, and music librarians. Some of our alumni combine their music activities with work in fields such as non-profit management and community-building. Some professions, like medicine and law, don’t require a particular undergraduate major, so some of our students earn a music major just to pursue their love of music.

Department of Theatre and Dance

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers students study of two performance arts within Wittenberg's liberal arts tradition. Through their work, students learn that the performing arts mirror the values and practices of society. They discover that the human condition is the substance of the art experience for both practitioners and audience. They come to understand the relationship of their discipline to the entire range of liberal arts studies--literature, history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, mathematics, and the sciences.
