About the Department of Art & Design

As a vital and engaging part of the university and the local community, Concordia’s Art and Design department immerses students in inspiring experiences and opportunities that teach the importance of art and design in the economy, the community and in cultures across the globe. Expansive offerings include studio art, graphic design and community arts that prepare students for many possible futures in the field. Our ambitious gallery program gives students a foundation in professional exhibition methods by working with established artists in addition to installing exhibitions of their own and other students’ artworks. Varieties of student arts activities include internships, trips to local studios, galleries and museums, and art trips to other cities and countries.

Concordia has significant facilities dedicated to the visual arts. The architecturally unique Concordia Art Center supports eight studio disciplines with major studio upgrades completed over the summer of 2013. Among changes on all four floors, the improvements featured the creation of new ceramics and sculpture facilities and the installation of a state-of-the-art Macintosh digital lab.

Unique benefits of the Concordia Art and Design program include:
Small class sizes allowing individualized instruction with an excellent teacher-to-student ratio
24-hour safe, secure access to studios with many studio supplies provided
Two galleries, featuring an active professional exhibition schedule alongside exhibitions dedicated to students, including a solo exhibition for studio art seniors
Proximity to the vibrant Twin Cities creative community which supports field studies, internship experiences, and community art and design opportunities

About the Department of Theatre and Dance

The Concordia University Department of Theatre and Dance provides exciting and challenging educational experiences for students as well as high quality theatrical experiences for audiences. We do this by providing a rich blend of traditional classroom and hands-on laboratory and performance opportunities. This helps prepare students for entry into professional careers in theatre, graduate study or to support and strengthen students in other fields such as education, business, or ministry. The Department of Theatre and Dance also provides a challenging variety of theatrical experiences that enrich the artistic, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual life of the community in which we live.

Theatre productions are held all year long, giving you the opportunity to shine in the spotlight or help behind the scenes. Recent productions on E.M. Pearson main stage have included Dracula, Germinal and The Robber Bridegroom. Many other theatre and dance productions take place in the Blackbox Theatre.
