Michael currently serves as the Director of Worship, Arts & Service at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Olympia, Washington. He holds a Master of Theological Studies from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California, where he focused his studies on music as local theology. Prior to his graduate studies, he studied psychology, neuroscience, and chemistry at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Michael shares his music in a variety of contexts, from liturgical settings and hymnody in congregations, to retreat experiences at Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center, synod assemblies and theological conferences for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and Montreat College and Middle School Conferences for the Presbyterian Church (USA). He hopes his music helps awaken people to the ordinary presence of God.
In addition to creating music for communal singing, Michael’s recent album, “Christmas in the Evergreens: Piano Reflections,” comprise of original piano arrangements of familiar Christmas melodies.
