I write to ask questions and to give expression to voices that would otherwise remain silent. In my dramatic works these are often voices of people in crisis-- homeless, refugees, individuals and families in pain. In writing hymn texts or worship anthem texts, my goal is to create surprise within the expected and to uncover deeper meaning within the familiar. I believe the purpose of arts in worship is to lead us to a place beyond word and thought where we can more fully experience God.
